Best GED Prep Book Around!

I got this book for my nephew who opted to take this test versus finishing his senior year of high school. He asked for my help with the math, but having been out of school for several years and not knowing specifically what type of math is on this test, I hoped to find a book with some specifics. I reviewed every section of this book and I was impressed with how well it organized the information and provided examples. I was grateful to receive this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
To start, this book has an excellent introduction. It explains what the GED test is, how the test is administered, what all the sections/topics are, how many questions are in each section and how much time is allotted for each section. They also explain how the test is scored. The Sections are as follows: Math, Reasoning through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. The last section of this book includes Practice tests for each section and answer keys; an added plus.
Each section is broken down into sub-sections sand those sections are broken down even further. Each sub-section includes plenty of examples to understand the subject matter. I highly recommend this book for anyone tackling this test. I don’t think there is another book around that could present this information in a better format.

Worth it

I wasn't sure about this study guide because it was really cheap. However, this book was really helpful. It covers all the core subjects and is really clearly laid out. Also has lots of practice. I'm taking the GED next month and I believe I will pass it thanks to this book.

I call test taking FUN and entertaining haha

I will admit that I am not actually planning on taking this test myself, rather I picked this up as a form of self education and entertainment for the many road trips and long distance drives my family takes. Yeah, I call test taking FUN and entertaining haha :) that said, about the study guide...

It has a nice and easy layout with all of the core subjects covered that you would expect to find on the official GED test. Language arts, math, science and social studies. This is a fantastic overview of what to expect as well as a nice refresher if you're like me and looking to pass some time without a screen!

I tried to provide as many photos of the details as I could because honestly when I look at reviews I first go to the photos to see the real life image of the item as I have found sometimes the stock photos can misrepresent what you're buying.

The greatest of all works on the magnificent Jaguar E-type.

Rarely does a book's title reflect accurately on its contents, as does Phillip Porter's "Jaguar E-type, The definitive history". One's initial impression is of physical presence, for this is a
massive work in all respects. Leafing through the book for the first time, one is immediately
struck by a sense of awe that this could possibly represent the work of one man. There can be
no doubt this is Porter's legacy, for which he laboured long and hard and gave much of himself.

The foreword is written by sportsman Briggs Cunningham, hinting that the car's racing heritage
will figure prominently within. This is indeed the case, for fully a third of the content is dedicated to competition. The greater volume of the book, however, deals with the production car, against an historical timeline that begins with its evolution and conception and extends, rather than ends, with the E-type as it continues to exist today.

It is clear that Porter is unabashedly passionate about this greatest of all sportscars, but he masterfully avoids what could have been a eulogy and creates both a powerful reference work
and an entertaining read. "The definitive history" brings together a multitude of colourful
personalities and anecdotes and weaves these into a framework of facts, insights and specifications. There are literally hundreds of photographs and illustrations, some of which will be familiar to those who have read other books on the subject but the vast majority of which have never been published before.

History and objectivity are often mutually exclusive and if there can be fault found in this work it would be historian's soft disdain for cars which diverged from the pure lines of the Series 1 two-seaters. This, however, does nothing to detract from what is an otherwise magnificient
accomplishment. There will be no other comprehensive histories written about the legendary Jaguar E-type, for none could possibly better this one.

Massive tome, excruciatingly detailed.

Phillip Porter's reference on the Jaguar E-Type that other authors cite as their source. This is a must read if you are at all interested in E-Types. Some of it may not be too flattering to Sir Wm Lyons or Jaguar but it tells the story as only an insider could. You will learn about the inspiration, design, developement, manufacture and end of production of the model

Nice, but confusing and unbalanced, and not for beginners

The book covers a myriad of methods for folding, pleating, gathering, etc., but is very inconsistent in its explanations of technique. Some are covered too well, while others are either very confusing in their explanations or glossed over, leaving the reader to figure out the techniques on their own. While I am not sorry I purchased the book, it is definitely not one for beginners and, unless one is willing to spend the time figuring out some of the less well-explained techniques, not worth the price I had to pay for it. Perhaps the author might consider updating the book to make it more accessible, especially for the novice.

PERFORMING MIRACLES WITH FABRIC!

This really is a book about how to perform miracles with fabric! I disagree with Gingercook that this is not a book for novices or beginning seamstresses. I am just learning to use my Viking Topaz 30, taking lessons at the best sewing shop in Las Vegas, but I LOVE this book and, as others have said, cannot put it down! I have found ANSWERS to every question you could possibly have concerning getting fabric to do what you want it to do. I want to make a ruffle skirt for my 4 year old grand-daughter, but I want to make one with ruffles that stand out and "float" - not just hang there. Maybe other people know about Circular Flounce and cutting the ruffle pieces (as it shows on page 67) from a CIRCLE OF FABRIC - the strip closest to the center of the circle has tremendous flare, the next strip not so much and the third strip (which is cut farthest from the center of the circle has very little flare. The diagrams in this book are the best I have ever seen and they are on every page, helping you to understand, totally, how to do each step. It explains GRAINLINE BALANCE ON PAGE 70, with diagrams. Sorry but I had never heard of grainline balance, but I will never forget it now! I had never heard of a GODET, now I can't wait to try to make one and the SQUARE GODET shown on page 84 is one of the most beautiful things I have seen. Just take a large hankerchief (or large square of fabric) hold it by one of the 4 corners and let the fabric drape by itself. The drawing on page 84 shows this with 4 folds ending in a handkerchief edge. I can't wait to try to make one. I am taking this book to my instructors so they can teach me how to make a godet (go-day).

I have never seen so many different drapery pleats. I especially like the CARTRIDGE PLEAT. Colette not only shows you all the different pleats, but she also shows you how to change them and make them look completely different.

This book is an INSPIRATION, but it is not a book about which fabric to choose to make the miracles happen. It is about being able to make these miracles happen with ALL KINDS OF FABRIC.

I'm taking classes in Heirloom sewing and this book shows how to do many of the Heirloom techniques and shows it with diagrams, making it easy to understand how to do all those intricate, gorgeous Shark's Teeth, Slashed Tucks, Keyhole Tucks, etc. The book also includes a chapter on Quilting and one on Stuffed Quilting & Applique, teaching you things that almost make you drool - because they are pieces of art and belong in a museum.

I purchased this book on a whim while I was deciding whether or not to purchase the Colette Sewing Handbook by Sarai Mitnick and I ended up buying both of them.

EVERY PERSON WHO SEWS OR WHO IS THINKING OF SEWING SHOULD OWN THIS BOOK. It is an inspirational book and a book of HOW TO PERFORM MIRACLES with fabric!

Good Inspiration, no instruction

This book is good if you want inspiration on what you could do with fabric, but is lacking in any instruction. Small black and white photos and illustrations lead to a general idea of how to reproduce some of the amazing works in this book.
If you have a general sewing knowledge, you may even be able to make a decent replica of many of the pieces but if you are looking for in depth instruction, or on with the more complicate works, this book will not deliver. Its decent and inspiring enough to give a look at and keep in your book case though.

Almond and Sidney Verba (1989). The theme has been more concisely analyzed in Walter A. Rosenbaum's Political Culture (1975). There is an attempt here to treat the raw notion of culture itself as a defining principle of international relations. Chay has segmented the study into five parts: Part 1 attempts to set out a general understanding of the concept with little specificity and obviously little agreement among the other contributors. Part 2 looks at the relationship from the perspective of the humanities, in particular an anthropological treatment of warfare, war and peace in literature, international relations in music, and the topics handled by philosophy. Another section is completely devoted to cultural aspects of US foreign policy. The last two parts look at geographical regions and issue areas. Given that so little attention has been paid to the importance of culture in explaining international group relations within the context of the international political system, this book is a worthwhile contribution. Part 2 looks at the relationship from the perspective of the humanities, in particular an anthropological treatment of warfare, war and peace in literature, international relations in music, and the topics handled by philosophy. Another section is completely devoted to cultural aspects of US foreign policy. The last two parts look at geographical regions and issue areas. Given that so little attention has been paid to the importance of culture in explaining international group relations within the context of the international political system, this book is a worthwhile contribution. JONGSUK CHAY is a Professor of History at Pembroke State University. He is the editor or coeditor of Problems and Prospects of American-East Asian Relations (1987), U.S.-Korean Relations, 1882-1982 (1982), and The Buffer States in World Politics (1987) and the author of A Symmetrical Diplomacy: Korean-American Relation to 1910(1990) and a number of scholarly articles and chapters on American-East Asian Relations, American foreign policy, and international relations.
