comprehensive, no-holds barred political history

Armando Navarro has written a comprehensive political history of the Mexicano in American society. It is difficult reading for some (see other reviews), yet no legitimate historian can argue with the research, the insights and the accuracy of much of what is said here. Rather than a "patriotic" or simply an "adversarial history", Navarro has written a nuanced analysis of what it has been to be Mexican in American society. While some may disagree with his recommendations, they will be hard put to find a better chronicling of this history. Navarro will rank among the best of U.S. scholars of color, and will be known for a long time as one of the most prolific and influential Chicano scholars of all time. Move over Norm Chomsky, Howard Zinn and Rudy Acuna.

This book underlynies the policital forces that prevent and have prevented Mexicans from taking polictical control.

It came in great condition even though it was a used textbook. a little watered damage but nothing that would interfere with the actual text in the book. the book itself is great to have if you're interested in Chicano history, it goes into great detail through different time periods. a must have for anyone interested in Chicano culture and history.

About the Author
Jay D. Helsel has worked more than 35 years in education, having served as a professor of applied engineering and technology courses, chairperson of the Department of Applied Engineering and Technology, and Vice President for Administration and Finance at California University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Helsel has had extensive experience teaching mechanical drafting at both the secondary and post-secondary levels and has worked in industry as well. He holds an undergraduate degree from California University of Pennsylvania, a master's degree from the Pennsylvania State University, and a doctoral degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Helsel is now a full-time writer and has authored publications such as Engineering Drawing and Design, Fundamentals of Engineering Drawing, Programmed Blueprint Reading, Computer-Aided Engineering Drawing, and Mechanical Drawing: Board and CAD Techniques, as well as various workbooks and other ancillary products associated with the above publications.

In addition to coauthoring News Reporting and Writing for Bedford/St. Martin's, he is coauthor of Telling the Story, Fourth Edition (2010), Working with Words, Seventh Edition (2010), and The Art of Editing, Seventh Edition (2001).�GEORGE KENNEDY, professor emeritus at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, is also a coauthor of Telling the Story, Fourth Edition (2010) and Beyond the Inverted Pyramid (1993), as well as a former managing editor of the Columbia Missourian and a former bureau chief for the Miami Herald. �DARYL R. MOEN is professor of journalism at the University of Missouri School of Journalism and former editor of three daily newspapers. Moen is also coauthor of Telling the Story, Fourth Edition (2010) and Beyond the Inverted Pyramid (1993), and author of Newspaper Layout and Design, Fourth Edition (2000). �DON RANLY is professor emeritus of journalism at the University of Missouri School of Journalism and was formerly director of the magazine sequence at the school. He too is coauthor of Telling the Story, Fourth Edition (2010) and Beyond the Inverted Pyramid (1993), author of Publication Editing (1999), and editor of Principles of American Journalism (1997).
