Never a dull moment!

Fated is the second book in The Marked Series and honestly I couldn’t have asked for a better follow up to the YA urban fantasy. There’s more action, enemies, loss, and love triangle mayhem (my fav!). I was having trouble myself deciding who I wanted Hanna to be with, the strong Guardian Will or the now tortured Jared.

Fated begins right where the first left off with Hanna close to death after a vicious attack from Blondie. We learned that Jared is the Chosen One from the prophecy, the half Fallen, half Guardian who will decide the fate of the world, good or bad. With her newly bestowed symbol (and awesome powers) Hanna and her friends fight to keep him safe, but Blondie is constantly one step ahead of them, determined to capture Jared at any cost. And he’s not the only one who wants to get their hands on Jared. In the end Hanna must choose not only between who she truly wants to be with, but who is truly worth saving.

The world of Fated comes alive, drawing you into an epic battle of good versus evil, one that not all will survive. There’s a mixture of action, love, heartbreaking loss, and even humor that had me hooked from the beginning all the way to the very last word. I loved the second even more than the first (didn’t think it was possible) and I’m dying to know what happens next with Hanna, Jared, Will, and the new threat Blondie has released. Please hurry with another!

Picking up where Marked left off, Fated draws us back into the world of Hanna, whose life was turned upside-down when she found out she was destined to play an instrumental role in the war between Guardians and the Fallen. Things got even more complicated when she found out that her best friend Jared is the Chosen One - and when he hits his 18th birthday, a choice between the darkness and the light will tips the scales to one side or another.

When Jared is taken by the sadistic Fallen leader Blondie, Hanna finds solace in the arms of the handsome Guardian Will, thus creating a love triangle of disastrous proportions. Will Hanna's betrayal push Jared to the wrong side? On top of that, there are some Guardians that would just as soon destroy Jared to save the world from him having to make his decision at all.

The action was nonstop in this book. Emotions ran at an alarmingly high level throughout the book (and at times, I had to put the book down because of it), but the fast pace and the excellent characters made this a fantastic read.

A Crazy Ride!

This book is such a crazy ride! TL McDonald knows how to keep the action coming page after page. The book picks up right where MARKED left off, and there isn't a dull moment. I found Hanna even more relatable through this book because she is under such stress that it makes her lash out in ways that feel real, and I appreciate that she makes mistakes. For me, that makes her feel more human. McDonald writes in such a way that it really feels like a teenager is telling the story, which adds to that effect. It was also neat to see how different characters react to finding out what's really going on with her. Admittedly, I'm a sucker for a good love triangle that really makes me feel the heartbreak, and I definitely felt it in this book. Team Will all the way! I liked this book even better than the first (and I know how hard it is to get a sequel that lives up to the first book). I can't wait to see where the story goes in the next installment.

Could Have Been Organized Better But Still Excellent

My feeling is that this book could have been organized better. The guy that gave this review 1 star was a bit harsh I thought the information was solid. With that being said I gave the book four stars because of it's organization based on it's title. The title is misleading it says 100 defending practices, but should read 100 defending drills and small sided games. I say this because there is no progession from small side to full side numbers. So you can't really follow how you start small with these topics and end up full side with a game stressing the necessary coaching points. If your familiar with any of Terzis Athanasios's work he does this excellently. When Terzis says practices that's what you get so I don't like the use of the word "practices" maybe his use of the word means fundamentals I don't know. So when I hear that word that's what I expect to see. Either way not a big deal that's my only knock other wise the drills are execellent it gives good framework to add your own variations the way you see fit. If your on top of all these defending topics already, and just need some fresh drills or games this is the book for you. IF YOU HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT DEFENDING AND YOUR LOOKING FOR COMPREHENSIVE PROGESSIVE PRACTICE SESSIONS THIS IS **NOT** THE BOOK FOR YOU.

Not very good

I bought this book to expand my soccer knowledge and preparation. I bought this book used, but it looked brand new and after reviewing it, I can tell why...it is not very helpful. The first exercise states:

"Player complete a set of four runs.
On each run the player must show the mannequin inside.
Players must angle their approach to the mannequin and work at realistic match pace.
Player must hold the pressure for 2/3 seconds on each mannequin"

Above these instructions is a picture of 6 players and 8 mannequins on a pitch with no indication of what the "run" would look like or the "pressure" that would be applied. All the 100 drills read this way and I felt that there was some important information missing that helped the drill to make sense.

It's no wonder the previous owner discarded it without much use. I will too!

Incredible book

This is a must-have for any students of Tibetan Buddhism or any one interested in Bhutanese art. Great text from Tulku Thondup and descriptions of many masters visions and experiences in Guru Rinpoche's Copper Colored Mountain.

Extraordinary Book

The book was commissioned by the Queen Mother of Bhutan and was a labor of love for everyone involved. It is a very special book for students of Tibetan Buddhism and is a "must have" if you are a nyigma practitioner. It is the only available source for photographs of the featured sacred sites since photography is strictly forbidden inside Bhutanese temples. Tulku Thondup's essay is wonderful.

Superb book, superb photography, whether Buddhist or not, a must-have for your library.

A work of art, a work of scholarship, this book can be enjoyed by anyone. It shows and annotates Bhutanese murals some of which have never before been seen in the West. The photographs of murals and Bhutanese monasteries and temples are spectacular. If you plan a visit to Bhutan, this is the only souvenir you will need. If you don't have an opportunity to visit, opening this book is as close as you can possibly get to Bhutan without being there. If you are interested in the details of Bhutanese Buddhism, you can find the scholarship in this book.

Excellent Resource & Beginner Guide

Mastering JavaServer Faces 2.2

Author Anghel Leonard really delivers it with this book. I'm new to JavaServer Faces and I found this book to be the comprehensive guide from front to back, covering everything required to get setup and running rather quickly. From states to custom events I found myself unable to put this book down, in fact I'd recommend picking up the "companion" to this book which I plan on ordering as well: JSF 2.0 Cookbook, Packt Publishing. Once you get this book down having a cookbook is really the next step to really drive home the learning experience.

My favorite part about this book was how it tied in AJAX and how it used events, something I love to do when thinking about how to handle data in an application is how will I work with it, keep track of it, and using events is how I typically deal with it. I was quite pleased with the coverage of AJAX in this book. Something very unique which I also enjoyed was the use of a queue to kinda throttle the requests hitting the server, often times I feel like too many requests are going to fire off at once. My test server is rather old now and get's a bit cranky when I throw lots of data at it. I've also been including factories in PHP setups for quick deployment so I was pleased to see JSF offers a similar type setup allowing me to utilize the portions I need and not worry about other underlying components.

I would have liked to seen more visual elements used in the book, while there are a few diagrams I like to see UML flow charts in use, and some visual elements to help reinforce the overall learning experience. I suppose the HeadFirst series spoiled my brain but I do like how they break up large chunks of text with visual elements. Near the end of the book I enjoyed building the Nadal site, however I would have liked to seen a more robust project using some of the techniques discussed in the earlier chapters. Despite my preferences I feel the book still deserves a 5/5 because it delivers on what it set out to achieve, and that's teach me the basics and medium to advanced JSF utilization's.

This book has something for everyone. For beginners, it explains the very basics, plus it provides understanding how JSF is connected with other vital technologies. And it even goes the extra mile to give beginners some healthy tips in the beginning. For those who are already familiar with current or previous revisions of JavaServer Faces technology, this books offers exhaustive tour of what JSF can actually do. Latest topics, like using lambdas in EL, is also covered.

On the top of it, the language level of this book is very pleasant. When used as a reference guide, information can be found quite easily without getting lost in long paragraphs of useless text. Also, there are code samples to be found everywhere.

500 PAGES of BEAUTIFUL JSF CODE

To start off; I would have to say the biggest PLUS is that this book is error FREE. I have bought every JSF book on amazon and have found 90% of them riddled with incomplete backing beans or erroneous implementation of JSF tags. I will not take credit away from the other books; I have learned a good deal from them.

The author starts and finishes a subject with a complete and comprehensive piece of code; beginner or advanced ONE good thing is you will be able to run the code and best of all see a result. The book is geared towards all kinds of users; be you a beginner intermediate or advanced, but more so geared towards intermediate and advanced users. I have to say if you are a beginner which is the case with me; you will need to do more research on basic JSF material. You will not find beginners explanations of the JSF life cycle or what is are JSF UIComponent tags. But you will find a treasure cove of code on how manipulate and use JavaScript commands within your JSF pages.

Other advanced topics will show you how to embed images within an input frame box; or changing color of input box if you click your mouse in a text box. I'm currently half way through the book. I feel I have found the secret book that contains the secret code snippets that the advanced programmers out there are using.

Overall I find this book a great reference and worth reading twice or trice. Very pleased with my purchase.

Its about time ...

It is about time that the subject of liberty, justice, and the silenced American Rebel was brought to public consciousness and discussion in this way. Many Americans are longing for a restored understanding of what true democracy looks like and means, and in this book, Wolf persuasively shows what can happen when normal people, ordinary citizens like you and I, truly engage in the democratic process as originally intended, and how we can use the system in every aspect of our lives and politics. I highly recommend this book for a clear, well thought out, intelligent approach to key issues facing our government and governance today.

Mandatory Reading for Every American Citizen!!

I read Give Me Liberty cover to cover in one sitting. It's scary. We should all be very concerned about the increasing loss of American liberties Naomi Wolf so eloquently writes about. Raising awareness is the first step and Wolf did this beautifully in the best-selling The End of America. What makes Give Me Liberty different and even more powerful is that while it reminds Americans that we are in a precarious political moment, it also reminds us that all of us - you, me, the next door neighbor, our teachers, our students, our mothers and fathers - the everyday citizens going about our lives are powerful and influential agents that can, and should take action. Wolf writes, "history shows that when an army of citizens, supported by even a vestige of civil society, believes in liberty -- in the psychological space that is "America" -- no power on earth can ultimately suppress them."

What I loved best about Give Me Liberty is that it shook me out of my apathy and motivated me to believe again not only in the psychological space that is America, but in the idea that I could actually do something to protect my own freedom and the freedom of the people I love. Wolf's book is timely. It is engaging. It is passionate and it is mandatory reading for every citizen who cares about America and considers themselves a patriot. We need to reestablish our civil society based in liberty immediately and Wolf clearly shows us, step by step, how to do this. This book - this call to arms - should be a staple in our schools and required reading for every American citizen.

Many "sheeple" may find this book full of conspiracy theories or libertarian style rhetoric but, if you are at all informed about the goings on in America you will be both appalled and captivated by this book ! The nice thing about this books' author is that Ms. Wolf is a LIBERAL !!!! She spells out exactly what is going on and how it has all come to fruition for these authoritarian tyrants who run this country . The book outlines in detail how America has become a police state and how our rights and freedoms have been and are being infringed upon . TERRIFIC READ !!! Kudos to the author , Ms. Wolf I SALUTE YOU !!!
