Great workbook for teaching kids ESL

I bought 3 different workbooks to use with ESL kids ages 10-14 and this is by far my favorite. It has tons of pictures and is especially easy to use interactively. What's more, sometimes it can be hilarious! I don't know if the humor is intentional but lots of times I find myself cracking up in front of the students at something in the book. Example: There's a picture of two raggedy men sitting on a bench with a makeshift fire and a sign behind them that says CITY PARK. Question: "Are they businessmen?" Answer: "No, they aren't. They're bums!" Laughed a good 3 minutes on that one.

So I don't know about everything being terribly appropriate, but I love this workbook and the kids definitely show more enthusiasm than with the other books. It's very intuitive, fun and interesting. The downside is that it's a tad pricey, actually maybe more than a tad (triple the price of the other workbooks in fact!). Still, if you're looking for something to teach kids basic English, I recommend this workbook as the best option you'll be able to find in Barnes & Nobles or Borders.

This book is a great workbook and a textbook that can be used for the ESL beginners. I learned English from it when I came to the USA. It covers basic tenses, numbers, includes nice stories and dialogues. I would recommend it to everyone!!!

Do yourself a favor and purchase this book.

If I had to use one word to describe this commentary I would choose, "meaty". There is a lot of information in this text. I believe that anyone who wants to understand the book of Genesis should have this book. I can't believe that as a Christian I had never heard of Rabbi Cassuto but I can understand why.

In my humble opinion, I would say that any library is without any of Rabbi Cassuto books is incomplete. It is a must have Commentary for the book of Genesis. I would also say that you may want to read his "The Documentary Hypothesis" book as he refers to it frequently in this book.

Also his commentary is unlike any Christian commentary that I personally have read. Do yourself a favor and purchase this book.

This commentary is very detailed and sometimes difficult to keep up with, but it does not compromise, and very clearly defends the literal translation of the most important section of the Bible. Perfect for Christians seeking truth!

Best source for fundmantals for applications

If you take the time to master just a porition of this encyclopedic refrence, you'll find a ready transition to the applied field in in kinematics of vehicle motion, robotics, optical imaging theory, theory of gears and even circuit theory and polarizations. Much of this material is either generalized in modern geometry to the point where the origins are completely obscured, or specialized to the point where it is impossible to see the "magic" behind the underlying theme. This should be a Theoretical Minimum in applied math. There is a deduction of one star because the wordiness in some sections can be expanded out in pictorial form for easier comprehension without the reader's resorting to pencil and paper at every turn.

An Important book but hard to read

This book is an important reference for any researcher in kinematics, it covers many important results for analysis and design of mechanisms. Unfortunately, this book is not easy to read for screw theory, which is not very popular outside kinematics, is used extensively. One particular problem for this book is that sometimes the authors tried to be too general and worked in n-dimension, this certainly would not help the readers as most of them only need kinematics in 3D.

Great edition of a Great Poet's Work

A poet not well known in the US, but brilliant, and I greatly prefer the dual-language edition, as I have with other poets - it's the only way to capture some of the intended "sound" that is so integral to poetry.

Great Book!

I have over 800 military books in my personal library, and I am a member of the Board of Directors of one of the State's military museums. In addition, I've been studying military history for the past 50 years. I found this short summary an excellent read that I count as part of my top 10 military books. I love the different historical perspective this series of military monographs from Periscopio Publications (distributed by Squadron/Signal Publications) accomplishes. This series is written by Greek authors that provide a refreshing viewpoint from the standard United States historical perspective. I particularly like the propaganda summary of World War 2 in the Western theater of operations that this publication illustrates.

Yarn as a metaphor for happiness.

This book is truly a masterpiece. My daughters love it and so do I but probably for different reasons. They enjoy the sweet, funny story of the girl who knits sweaters for everyone and everything in her little town and then triumphs against a mean archduke with a long mustache in the end. Good stuff.

I love the book too because it has so many layers; it is easy for adults to appreciate the yarn as a metaphor for happiness. Klassen's powerful illustrations show us a dark, snow-covered landscape at the start of the book. Then Annabelle finds the box of yarn amidst this dreary backdrop and sets about knitting sweaters for everyone. We see her kindness and joy transform the bully, Nate, and his dog and her grumpy teacher, Mr. Norman, and the rowdy class. We see the people she knits sweaters for attached to each other by strands of yarn. People look happier and connected. The landscape brightens. Then the archduke enters and tries to buy her happiness and then tries to steal it but of course that does not work. Then he tries to curse her so she will suffer from the same lack of happiness that plagues him and his family but of course that does not prevent her happiness from finding her again. I love that message and I love this book.

Slip slip knit

If you are a knitter then you should get this book. I first saw it in my local yarn shop. It is about a little girl who, in the middle of winter, finds a box filled with yarn of every color, so she knits herself a sweater. When she was done she had extra yarn so she knit a sweater for her dog, Mars. Annabelle ends up knitting sweaters for just about everyone in town, except for Mr. Crabtree, who just didn't wear sweaters. He got a hat instead. News of Annnabelle and her extra yarn spread and a cheeky Archduke tried to buy Annabelle's box of yarn. Well, she refused his offer. Rebuffed, he hires robbers to steal the box of yarn from her. The story ends well, however, for Annabelle. My daughter loves this story and Jon Klassen's illustrations are as good as ever. The text is simple and fun to read. This is an awesome bedtime story for all young children and parents alike.

A Magic Tale About Yarn and Knitting

As a knitter, I try to buy every good knitting book that comes along. Having heard about a children's book on the subject, my interest was piqued. I just finished reading Extra Yarn and was delighted. It is a story about a little girl named Annabelle who finds a box filled with yarns of every color. She knits herself a sweater and ends up knitting sweaters for almost everyone in her town. She even knits cover-ups for things that don't need sweaters - like cars, mail boxes, houses, etc. The box that the yarn comes from is a magic box and the yarn it contains is never-ending.

The book reads like a fairy tale. There are the good people and the evil ones. Good prevails and this is a wonderful character study for children ages 4-8. It is also a wonderful ode to yarn and knitting that will charm every knitter who reads it.
